AbstractPreviously, New Zealand citizens and those who studied medicine in New Zealand were subject to restrictions in terms of their eligibility to bill on Medicare in Australia. As of April 2010, those restrictions have been removed, making Australia an even more attractive destination for New Zealand doctors, particularly those who have completed their specialist training. At a time when the New Zealand health system can ill afford to lose more doctors overseas, this situation is of significant concern.
