Dear SirIn regards to Mike Ardagh's editorial1 "Why do patients choose the emergency department?" surely the answer lies in his sentence "...she [the mother] calls her GP but can't get an appointment until Thursday."All I can say is that general practice must have changed since my time. My practice had an inflexible rule that anyone who called worried concerning a sick child was always seen on that day.Has general practice just become a 9–5 job?
